{RECIPE} Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Cookies

Banana peanut butter dog treats

The classic combination of peanut butter and banana meet again in dog-friendly form, jazzed up with delicious coconut and a dash of cinnamon for an extra special homemade treat.

Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits

🥄 Treat Ingredients:

1/3 cup smooth peanut butter
1 mashed banana
1 egg
1/4 cup fine desiccated coconut (regular is ok too, just a little bit chunkier in the treats than pictured)
Approximately 1/2 cup coconut flour
A dash of cinnamon (optional)
🥄 Making the Treats:

Preheat your oven to 180C (or local equivalent) and gather together your baking ingredients and materials.

Mix all of the ingredients thoroughly (adjust consistency with a little extra flour or water if needed).

Hand roll into small bite-sized balls, place on a prepared baking sheet, and flatten gently.  Use a fork for flattening if you want a classic PB cookie cross-hatched top - simply press the tines gently twice, with the second press perpendicular to the first. Easy peasy!

Bake for approximately 10-15 minutes.  Cool before serving and storage.

Tips and Tricks:
  • If your chosen peanut butter is gluten free, then so are these treats. Ensure your PB is xylitol free!
  • In addition to being doggone delicious and fragrant, cinnamon offers some great health benefits to dogs (and people); however, it's not suitable for everyone. Pregnant/nursing dogs in particular should not be given cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon is the recommended variety for dogs, if/when used.
  • Coconut flour is a good option for gluten-free / grain-free pet treats, but its also a pretty healthy choice outright: it is high in fibre, high in protein, and low-GI relative to alternatives. You can substitute another flour of your choice, but you might need to up the quantity to get a good cookie dough consistency as coconut flour is very absorbent.
  • These treats can be frozen if you would like to freeze extras or make a large batch for later.
  • The treats can be broken for smaller dogs, or made smaller - just keep an eye on your cooking time, as the smaller the cookie the shorter the baking time.
