Happy New Year! 2020 Post Holiday Blog Break Catch Up

What??? Holidays are over? And it’s Monday? Oh poo… Hello again furfriends, and hello 2020! Happy New Year from the blog dogs of Dalmatian DIY! We’ve been quiet the past few weeks enjoying some semi-offline family holiday time. Every day we share together is a gift, and we hope there will be many more days, celebrations, milestones, and memories to come. Here’s our behind the scenes 2019/2020 post holiday catch up with gratitude for our 2019 and for you, our furfriends near and far.

Christmas Celebrations

Christmas was, as always, tons of riptastic fun. It was sad taking out the holiday decorations and seeing Tiger’s little stocking, but there were many memories from the years gone by as well. Christmas was a relaxed quiet day with just us and the dogs hanging out at home. Santa Paws was good to the boys and after a cool morning walk (in silly hats/headbands and festive bandanas), there was plenty of ripping and squeaking. And then plenty of napping by tired happy dogs. Humphrey’s snowman bandana in the photo below is one of our simple serged DIY dog bandanas and he’s lounging on our DIY dog beds. He was ready for a Christmas afternoon nap and recharge.

Starting the New Year

There are no special resolutions for me this year, but I’m always making an effort to try and be more mindful. Slow time with Oli is a great reminder to appreciate every day together and find joy in the little things. If you’re thinking about ways to make this year even better for you and your dogs, check out our archived post on ways to give your dog a happier and healthier life. Let’s make 2020 doggone great!

It’s been a warm start to the year in our part of New Zealand. Fortunately our evenings and early mornings have been delightfully cool. We’ve been taking advantage for walks, including outings with our senior dog stroller when time and temperatures suit. Oli has really taken to his wheels, and I love being able to safely offer him the extra mental stimulation. I rarely have a camera on local walks these days (I miss our old trails and beaches), but if you follow us on Instagram, iPhone happy snaps often pop up in our stories from strolling and other day-to-day activities. The photo below was taken during one of his hop-off portions of a neighbourhood walk to the local off lead reserve.

Behind the Scenes with the Blog Dogs of Dalmatian DIY

Creative Life and Posting Prep

Although the blog has been on holiday, we’ve been at home throughout. Life continues as usual behind the scenes, with plenty of tasty treats and the occasional crazy craft projects. The blog dogs of Dalmatian DIY are always taste testing well ahead of the calendar. They’ve actually been taste testing Easter goodies recently. No objections to being out of sync when delicious carob bunny biscuits are on offer! Hehe! The poo emoji treats shown in the start of this post were also made using carob treat dough. They’re cut with our poo emoji cookie cutter (a gift from Santa Paws a few years back), with the indentations for eyes and mouth drawn on by hand. I couldn’t resist!

With Gratitude and Thanks to Our Readers and Friends

I’ve included some happy, sad, fun, silly, posed, candid, blog, and personal photos from our 2019 in the collage below. We look forward to sharing our posts and our lives behind the scenes with you again this year. Thank you all for being part of our crazy blog dog world and for all the love you’ve shown to Oli and Humphrey over the years.  It’s hard to believe, but the Dalmatian DIY blog will turn five later this year. Whoot whoot! How shall we celebrate the milestone?

Wishing You a Wonderful 2020

We hope that 2020 brings health and happiness to you and yours. To those currently celebrating the lunar new year and the official transition to the Year of the Rat this coming weekend, Happy New Year!
