The big double digit 1-0 milestone! Happy 10th birthday to Humphrey! Another year has flown by in a flurry of fun, fur, friends, and Humphrey is now officially a double-digit Dali. Here’s a recap of our little furfamily celebration for Humphrey’s 10th birthday.
Humphrey's 10th Birthday
As a winter birthday, the weather odds are never really in our favour, but short soggy cold winter days can dampen or dull our happiness at celebrating yet another special birthday milestone together. As luck would have it, the weather this year wasn’t too bad for a winter’s day, so we got to enjoy sunshine walkies in both the morning and the afternoon. Hooray for a late afternoon sunshine stroll to burn off some of that birthday cake. Haha! Humphrey had playdate furfriends visiting the day before and the day after his birthday, but the actual day was just us hanging out and having fun. His pals got to supervise the baking of the cake the day before and sample saved slices, though!
Once again, the polka dot party hats (also celebrating 10 years…) and birthday dog bandanas came out for a few special photos to make the milestone, and then there was cake! What do you think Humphrey might be wishing for in the photo below? Probably for Momma to put the camera down and serve up some of that doggone delicious smelling chicken cake…

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!
Well, not quite dinner, but this year’s cake was still a celebratory jackpot for Humphrey and friends. Humphrey’s special birthday cake was a chicken dinner inspired layer cake of chicken meatloaf, topped with mashed potato and a bone broth jelly gravy mirror glaze.
He’s been having lots of tasty turkey in our other foods and treats, like turkey meatballs, so I thought I’d change it up for cake day and bake with chicken instead. Although a meatloaf birthday cake is always a special treat and a firm favourite for Humphrey and his friends, I wanted to do a little something extra for the big 1-0, so I decided to go all-in on the chicken dinner inspiration and add gravy. Not actual gravy, of course, but this bone broth and gelatin mixture sure looks the part. It’s a dogified version of mirror glaze, applied as a gravy-like drizzled topping over the finished layer cake. We’ll be sharing all the birthday cake details in an upcoming post for anyone keen to try their own.
As always, he got to enjoy a special celebratory slice on the big day, and the rest was portioned up for the fridge and freezer, including some special slices for sharing with his favourite neighbourhood furfriends during their playdate the day after his birthday.

Birthday Treats and Toys
We didn’t make any extra birthday treats as we’re well stocked with gummies, meatballs, beef jerky, and other tasty snacks at the moment. But there was extra bone broth gelatin from making the gravy mirror glaze, and that was set into extra gummy treats. Always a favourite!
Athough I’m working through weaving and photographing some of our old tug toys for post updates, Humphrey prefers playing with those with his pals. On his own, he loves to squeak or crinkle, and I have a little stash of toys in a basket that I’ve bought either during sales or when I’ve seen something super cool and just had to have it. Switching things up from our usual special occasion barktail drink, Humphrey got to smash a Moscow Mule squeaky toy for his birthday this year. Hahaha! How awesome are the details on these toys? So cute.
This isn’t a product promo, just sharing a little bit of our own joy and purchases for any curious peeps and pups. The P.L.A.Y. toucan, which some of our Instagram furfriends was Humphrey’s first from their collection. It’s still his all time favourite, although he’s also really likes the parrot and the VHS super squeaker. To be fair, he hasn’t met a toy he hasn’t liked, but some are better suited or longer lasting than others for his style and play preferences. Humphrey loves it when toys have a good substantial squeaker that he can prance, squeak, and occasionally sing with. Bottle crunch and crinkle are ok, but no competition for a squeaker if given the choice. Although the newest toy is always exciting.

Birthday Love and Wishes
Thanks for all of the love you’ve shared with us since we started Dalmatian DIY, and for being part of Humphrey’s blog dog world. Humphrey was a young puppy when we started sharing Dalmatian DIY, and some of our readers have been with us (thank you so much) for every single one of his birthdays, starting with his very first barkday. Look at the little lad below! Oh, how the years go by far too fast, but we love and treasure every moment and memory made together. Woofs of gratitude for the birthday wishes on his Instagram and Facebook, and stay tuned for his chicken birthday cake recipe and instructions coming up soon here on the blog. Love and licks from our furfamily to yours!
