"Gold Dust" St. Patrick's Day Gelatin Gummy Dog Treats

This little gummy is a just-for-fun adaptation of our simple green gummy treats that takes advantage of the way turmeric powder tends to partially settle in gummy treats to create a dusting of golden flecks.

{RECIPE} Cream Cheese Chicken Dog Treats

Dalmatian dog staring at a bone shaped green dog treat

These treats combine the irresistible flavours of grilled chicken and tangy cream cheese with tasty herbs, and use healthy add-ins to make a naturally green treat - just because! They are perfectly yummy au natural, but cream cheese dough is great for tinting and I felt like playing. As we were pre-prepping our St. Patrick's Day posts at the time, I went for green, but this dough would also make a great base for other tints. I may try a pretty pink beetroot powder adaptation next time!

{RECIPE} Simple Spirulina Gelatin Gummy Dog Treats

Close up of a paw shaped spirulina gelatin gummy dog treat

Simple gelatin gummies are a great way to include super-food spirulina in our doggy diet. They're easy to make, mess-free to serve, and make it a snap to share nutrient-dense spirulina in small quantities. No muss, no fuss. Plus, they look pretty cool as well thanks to the gorgeous natural blue-green of spirulina. Unlike my experiments with using spirulina as a tint in baked treats, the colour shines bright and beautiful in a gummy suspension.

{RECIPE} Naturally Green Kale and Herb Gummy Dog Treats

Dalmatian dog begging for a green paw shaped dog treat

Gummies are some of the simplest treats we make, but they're also some of the healthiest. Pawesome! A batch of gummies takes only a few minutes to prepare, most of which is hands-off for blooming, and then they're off to set in the fridge. Easy peasy! In the spirit of our Year of the Dog pledge to always have gummies on hand in the fridge as "treats" we're playing with lots of flavour combos and mixtures, so you'll be seeing plenty of pawesome gummy ideas here on the blog.

Homemade "Unicorn Bone" Rainbow Marbled Dog Treats

Homemade dog treats marbled in rainbow colours (unicorn bones)

These pretty rainbow marbled "Unicorn Bone" treats were made for Oli's 11th Barkday Pawty last week. They are deceptively simple to make (and doggone delicious, too!). I promise that no actual unicorns were harmed in the course of our festivities...heheh... Don't let the colours deceive you - these are almost all natural thanks to some tasty healthy add-ins with just a teensy bit of blue food colouring (skip the blue if you'd like them completely natural). Here's how they were made:

Tug of Tugs! DIY Double Woven Fleece Dog Tug Toy

A tug toy woven out of tug toys?  Oh yes we did!  Why? Simply because someone asked us if we could try to make one! No promises, but if you have a doggone crazy idea that you'd like us to try, don't be shy!  Since this toy was slotting into our schedule on St. Patrick's Day, I went with a wild rainbow of colours, adding in white to make the extra eighth colour for the multi-coloured mix. This also helps you to see what's what in the how-to photos.

DIY St. Patrick's Day Woven Fleece Dog Tug Toy Ideas

Dalmatian dog playing with a homemade woven fleece spiral tug toy

St. Patrick's Day is coming soon, and it's ever so easy to have a little pinch-proof playtime by making your dog a new green toy.  Modern St. Patrick's Day celebrations are all about the green (did you know that Saint Patrick's traditional colour is actually blue?), and you can't go wrong by mixing together fresh bright greens on their own or with a pop of white, glitter of golden yellow, or even a flag inspired orange if it takes you fancy and suits your available materials.

{RECIPE} St. Patrick's Day Hound's Holiday Hash Cookies

Green homemade dog cookie treats for St. Patrick's Day

These cookies were inspired by Irish hash, although I somehow doubt my grandmother would approve of this particular recipe. Hehe!  The St. Patrick's Day dog treats combine potato, kale, egg, and beef into a naturally green dog-friendly baked cookie. Corned beef would be far too salty for our furry friends, but salt-free homemade dog beef jerky chunks in a colcannon-inspired dough? Doggone delicious. Lucky doggies indeed!

DIY Rainbow Bone (Rainbone!) Squeaky Dog Toy

Pot of gold? This rainbow has a pot of spots at the end! Lucky dog indeed. Check out those crazy eyes - Humphrey's found a treasure and there's no way he's giving it up! The bone is looking a little lumpy in this particular picture from being wildly fanged, but crazy eyes was my favourite shot!

DIY Easy Sew Over-the-Collar Bow Tie for Dogs

DIY plaid dog bow tie with Velcro collar attachment

With St. Patrick's Day and Easter so close together (and the the start of spring for those of you up north!), we wanted a party-worthy holiday "outfit" that could be worn for multiple occasions.  This remnant of bright plaid cotton was perfect for all of the above, and just begging to become preppy plaid bow-tie! You can do this DIY with any lightweight cotton fabric, and could be a great recycle for a scrappy old shirt if you are digging the plaid. Here's how to make your own simple dog bow tie and a finished fabric Velcro over-the-collar fastener.
