{RECIPE} Peanut Butter Pumpkin Dog Cake with Blueberries

Small slices of blueberry dog cake on plates with dollops of whipped cream

This dog-friendly pumpkin and peanut butter cake is an easy pawty recipe if you'd prefer a more traditional cake or cupcake/pupcake to a meatloaf-style doggy cake. With yummy pumpkin, delicious nutritious blueberries, and a hint of irresistible peanut butter it is doggone droolworthy. You might even be tempted to taste test a piece yourself. We don't make cake treats very often around here - birthdays mostly, but also occasionally for special events and (of course) as part of our recipe development/testing. Whenever there is pupcake, our boys get VERY excited!

These pawesome paw print dog treats combine the yummy tastes of pumpkin with healthy herbs and irresistible cheese.  The dough works well for roll-and-cut treats, but you can also make simple flattened balls or use our shortcut for making "cut" dog treats en masse. Easy peasy!

{RECIPE} Pumpkin + Peanut Butter Cake with Yogurt Frosting

Dog party buffet table with birthday cake and treats

It's not really a birthday party without a cake, is it? In the words of Julia Child, "a party without cake is just a meeting." and while we do enjoy meetings with doggone delicious snacks, barkday parties with dog-friendly cakes are far superior. :)  Our dog birthday cakes are usually meatloaf-style creations, but for Oli's barkday pawty this year I decided to make meatballs as a side and bake a "real" cake instead.

{RECIPE} Doggone Delicious "Chocolate Lab" Dog Treats

Brown dog treats shaped like dogs, bones, and small circles

A wee nibble of "Chocolate Lab" anyone???  I couldn't resist sharing these dog shaped treats as our first recipe post of the Year of the Dog Any roll-and cut recipe (ideally, smooth if you're going to make a design on the treats as shown) can be used with the techniques below to make dog shaped treats or human cookies, but I couldn't get chocolate labs out of my brain when I was walking home with my newly purchased "had to have it" cookie cutter. I'm sure I'll make some speckled Dalmatians in the future. Hehehe. Dalmatians aren't such a common high-demand breed but they share a very similar body type so Labrador Retriever will do just fine for my Dalis.  I paid waaaaay more for it than I should have (shhhh...don't tell hubby) but I also got the instant gratification of putting it straight to use with no wait for delivery (can be quite a wait down here!).  If you prowl online you can find tons of fun doggy shapes.

{RECIPE} Bacon Bone Dog Treats with Pumpkin and Herbs

Homemade pumpkin dog treats shaped like bones

It is a rare thing for my poor deprived dogs that there would be bacon cooking in the house (I'm a vegetarian), so when there was bacon for one of my husband's grilling recipes, how could I not take a little and make a few special dog treats? Oli was still very vision-impaired in his cataract surgery recovery, but he could definitely smell the doggone delicious scents of sizzling bacon, baking treats, and...sniff sniff sniff....taste testing!

Red White and Blue Marbled Star Treats for Patriotic Pups

These red white and blue treats for patriotic pups show how simple it is to adapt the same marbling technique as our Unicorn Bones to other fun treats. We're really feeling rather jealous of our American furfriends who will be having a long weekend for Memorial Day, but we're very good and giving dogs so we're going to share a special post for them all the same. :)  Don't forget to take some time in tribute to the reason for the holiday - see our Remembrance Day Dog post for some inspiring history.   Have a wonderful weekend, and stay safe furfriends!
