{RECIPE} "Kitchen Sink" Super Puppy Patty Dog Treats

Drawstring bags of orange dog treats on a wooden table

These dog treats are packed with doggone delicious flavours and boosted with healthy ingredients, including some dog-friendly super foods.  Unlike many of our treats, these super food puppy patties include a wide variety of ingredients, hence the kitchen sink nickname. :)  Not to worry; however, as you can also easily customise the recipe to adjust quantities or make substitutions to suit your preferences and your dog's tastes.

{RECIPE} Golden Oldie Birthday Bone Stamped Dog Treats

Bone shaped homemade dog treats stamped with party words

Oli's Golden Oldie 12th birthday treats all had a gloriously golden theme, but the busy baking kitchen still needed to smell moderately acceptable (unfortunately) to humans who might be sprung upon us at short notice for property viewings.  For these stamped birthday treats, I adapted our favourite basic roll-and-cut peanut butter dough recipe to smell even better (although the basic recipe smells pretty great as is) and look glorious golden.

DIY Stamped Dog Treats (Plus Peanut Butter Bacon Bones!)

Bone shaped dog treats stamped with names and words

Santa Paws brought all sorts of interesting little goodies for crafting and baking (clearly the elves had read our post with Christmas Gift Ideas for Dogs and Dog Lovers) including a set of DIY alphabet cookie stamps. I have a number of cute cookie stamps and presses in my baking stash, including a set of larger letters, but these mini letters are perfect for using on smaller treats and are just the right size for my favourite bone-shaped cookie cutter.

{RECIPE} Doggone Delicious "Chocolate Lab" Dog Treats

Brown dog treats shaped like dogs, bones, and small circles

A wee nibble of "Chocolate Lab" anyone???  I couldn't resist sharing these dog shaped treats as our first recipe post of the Year of the Dog Any roll-and cut recipe (ideally, smooth if you're going to make a design on the treats as shown) can be used with the techniques below to make dog shaped treats or human cookies, but I couldn't get chocolate labs out of my brain when I was walking home with my newly purchased "had to have it" cookie cutter. I'm sure I'll make some speckled Dalmatians in the future. Hehehe. Dalmatians aren't such a common high-demand breed but they share a very similar body type so Labrador Retriever will do just fine for my Dalis.  I paid waaaaay more for it than I should have (shhhh...don't tell hubby) but I also got the instant gratification of putting it straight to use with no wait for delivery (can be quite a wait down here!).  If you prowl online you can find tons of fun doggy shapes.

{RECIPE} Blackberry Cheesecake Dog Treats

Homemade pink dog treats shaped like bones and hearts

Old boy Oli is an absolute fiend for blackberries. Our berry patch is in a gated area, but when the gates are open whilst I'm working in the garden, Oli is sure to arrive like a berry seeking bear bumbling his way into the bird netting hoping for a tasty nibble. Since antioxidants are a big part of our efforts to give Oli happy healthy golden years, his berry love is something we happily indulge in moderation. Blackberries are a powerhouse of free radical fighting antioxidants along with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Blackberries are also a vibrant dark purple-red inside their inky drupelets, and the messy stains on my berry picking fingers inspired me to use that natural colouring to create these Valentine treats.  Beetroot is usually my pink go-to, but Oli was very pleased to see blackberries on the menu. And with the irresistible tang of cream cheese? Drool!

{RECIPE} Sardine and Cheese Dog Treats (Naturally Pink!)

Pink bone shaped homemade dog treats

With the chaos and fun of Christmas behind us, it's time for us to start our Valentine's posts, yay! Feel the love, furfriends!  Nothing says love to our boys quite like something super stinky and delicious, and fishy treats are particularly irresistible. Sardines puree to a not-so-appetising greige colour, so these treats get an all-natural colour boost from beetroot powder.  Delicious and nutritious!

{RECIPE} "Cat Poo" Poop Emoji Dog Treats

What? Poo??? Shudder... 💩 As much as my little darlings are beyond well fed, they still have a disturbing longing for their cat brother's litter box. Fortunately, they are big dogs that can be blocked/barriered without obstructing poor Tiger's access to the facilities. Strictly cats only! Ick. Santa Paws laughingly tucked a poop emoji cookie cutter under the tree in my Christmas stocking (the elves mush have been reading our gift ideas for dog owners), and I joked that the dogs would be eagerly awaiting cat poo treats.  Little did the family suspect I might actually be (almost) serious. Hehe.

DIY Christmas Ornament Dog Treats without a Plunger Cutter

Homemade Christmas dog treats shaped like patterned tree ornaments

We've been sharing lots of different holiday treats in our barkmas bonanza this year, including cute Christmas plunger cookie cutters (affiliate link) for treats like our gingerbread dog treats, carob and peanut butter dog treats, and spicy apple dog treats, but we though we'd throw in a bonus post hot on the heels of our last plunger treat post of the year for those of you who'd love to make a patterned treat but can't get your hands on a set of Christmas plunger cookie cutters.

{RECIPE} Peanut Butter and Carob Christmas Dog Treats

Homemade carob Christmas dog treats with red and green drawstring treat bags and ribbons

"Chocolate" and peanut butter? Doggone irresistible! These treats swap the chocolate for dog-friendly carob as a delicious adaptation of our smooth roll-and-cut peanut butter dog treat recipe. This dough handles well for roll-and-cut treats, but if you're looking for a quick and easy alternative, you can use fork flattened balls or go for our simple no-rolling DIY dog treat method.

{RECIPE} Naturally Green Christmas Tree Dog Treats

Homemade Christmas dog treats shaped like green trees on a table with red and green drawstring treat bags and ribbons

These miniature Christmas tree dog treats are naturally green bite-sized bits of Christmas goodness, made using an adaptation of our leafy green dog treat dough and were perfect with my miniature Christmas tree cookie cutter - bite-sized for my boys.   For a slightly richer and darker green colour, I used a combination of both kale and wheatgrass. I also experimented with low-fat coconut milk powder in lieu of low-fat diary milk powder.  It had a little more impact on the liquid-to-flour than my usual low-fat dairy milk powder (slightly less flour required for a cohesive dough), but nothing significant and it added a great scent to the mix.  Dairy is still my go-to for baking, but if you're dog is lactose sensitive or you're just looking for a change, it's definitely a potential substitution option.

{RECIPE} Peanut Butter and Molasses Christmas Dog Treats

Homemade Christmas dog treats shaped like gingerbread men and dog houses

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas, and these treats smell almost good enough to temp a few human taste-testers. A little splash of blackstrap molasses and sprinkle of spice jazzes up our smooth roll-and-cut peanut butter dog treat recipe with a gingerbread-inspired holiday boost of scent and flavour. That dough works so well for simulating a cookie-dough texture that I wanted to play with it for my new Christmas plunger-cutters (I couldn't resist buying them...) and it worked very nicely! Since we were making gingerbread treats, I used only the gingerbread person plunger from the set and creating some matching gingerbread houses.  Here's how they were made.

{RECIPE} Fabulously Fishy Salmon and Oat Dog Treats

Bone shaped homemade dog treats

These fabulously fishy treats are so stinky doggone droolworthy. Smelly equals irresistible to our boys! These treats were baked using the ready-to-mix dry ingredients pictured in our easy DIY Dog Treat Jar, but are equally pawesome made straight up. Definitely a hit with our dogs! They may not be as pretty as some of the holiday treats we have in our line up for you in our pre-Christmas bonanza this year, but dogs are all about the smell/taste and this is a sure to please recipe that any dog on the nice list would love to receive from Santa Paws and his helpers.
