{RECIPE} Fish Bone Dog Treats (Made with Fresh Fish)

Homemade bone shaped dog treats and party hats at dog birthday party.

When I make fish treats, I usually use a water-packed tinned fish for dough and fresh fish for special treats like jerky, but since I already had a fishy food processor to clean and more fish than was needed for the surf layer of the Surf'n'Turf Dog Birthday Cake, I decided to experiment. When I use meat/fish in baked treats, it's also usually already in ready to serve form, whether tinned or precooked and chopped, so I adjusted my baking methods somewhat for these treats to cook a little longer and slower than my usual quick bake and (optional) dehydrate.

{RECIPE} Surf'n'Turf Dog Birthday Cake with Potato Frosting

Homemade dog birthday cake with frosting, sprinkles, and candles.

The dogs were beyond excited with all of the smells whilst this birthday cake was being prepared, but be forewarned that you may want to have the windows open, weather permitting! Haha! And don't get me started on the fridge after I made the error of popping the finished cake uncovered into the fridge temporarily.

{RECIPE} Crunchy Dehydrated Fish Jerky Dog Treats

Copper bowl filled with homemade dehydrated fish jerky dog treats

Stinky fishes? Oli and Humphrey's favourite dishes! So delicious! Fish treats are very attractive high-value goodies for our boys, and homemade dehydrated fish treats take the drool factor to the max. I'm a-ok tasty treats being a little smelly since fish are nutritious and delicious, plus there are numerous low(er) purine lean fish options, which is great for moderating purines for our Dalmatians.

Elderly Dalmatian dog wearing a "Happy Birthday" bandana

Wowzas! Our beautiful boy is 13!  Thanks for all the social media love and birthday wishes you've shared with Oli for his birthday. We're always grateful to celebrate another milestone together, but after Oli's medical emergency last year and Tiger's recent passing, we've been feeling extra mindful and thankful this time around.  Now that our little blogging breaktime for Easter celebrations and ANZAC Day commemorations is past, we're back with photos from Oli's barkday and the details on our latest crazy cake: a doggone droolworthy surf'n'turf layer cake!

{RECIPE} Sardine and Cheese Dog Treats (Naturally Pink!)

Pink bone shaped homemade dog treats

With the chaos and fun of Christmas behind us, it's time for us to start our Valentine's posts, yay! Feel the love, furfriends!  Nothing says love to our boys quite like something super stinky and delicious, and fishy treats are particularly irresistible. Sardines puree to a not-so-appetising greige colour, so these treats get an all-natural colour boost from beetroot powder.  Delicious and nutritious!

DIY Stuffed Squeaky Softie Shark Dog Toy

Oh the shark has, pretty teeth dear, and he shows them, pearly white... When I found this grey fabric, I simply had to make a shark toy.  Not only is it a fun shape for a toy, Sharkie (Baby Shark, Sharkle Fang...) has been Humphrey's nickname since his nibbley puppy days and a shark toy would be just perfect for our wild beasts.  Shark attack!

{RECIPE} Pumpkin and Salmon Dog Treats

Homemade pumpkin and salmon dog treats in a drawstring treat bag

These pumpkin and salmon treats are packed with healthy goodness.  Our dogs LOVE their fish treats and the strong smell is simply irresistible. Our "Stinky Pinky" treats were a doggy hit, so we decided to create an adaptation that stretches the salmon into a much bigger batch of treats that are still stinky and fishaliscious using the healthy addition of delicious and nutritious pumpkin. Yum!

{RECIPE} Salmon Snackers Dog Treats

School of fish shaped homemade salmon dog treats

I have had this cute little fish sitting in my cookie cutter jar for ages (a little AliExpress (affiliate link) pressie from hubby for my pet treat baking) and it was just begging for some fishilicious treats.  The dough was a little tricky to pop out without cracking the tails, so I use the side of a knife which left a small mark that made me think fish bones...so I used my knife to trace a design on each fish, just for fun!  The little bubble bites are made with my fondant/cookie plunger cutters, which is my go-to method for using the in-betweens of rolled dough after cutting shapes as well as rapidly making small treats for carrying on walks/runs.

{RECIPE} "Stinky Pinky" Salmon Training Treats

Homemade pink salmon dog treats in a drawstring treat bag

This week's recipe is about as simple (and smelly!) as they get. With just two core ingredients plus optional extras,  these are very easy to make and a good option to experiment with if your dog has a sensitive tummy. Cutting tiny treats used to be an absolute pain to the point of being prohibitive until I discovered the secret superpower of my little fondant/cookie plunger cutters. Now I can quickly and easily make A LOT of tiny biscuits, and the small circle shape holds up well even in pocket treat bags or my running wristlet.  Using a nice solid biscuit dough helps, and preferable something smelly and delicious, of course!  Stinky treats are always high-value around here!  Being pink, I couldn't help making a few big (stink-iliciously smelly) love hearts as well.
